Dr. Shaaban Kitindi Fundi has 16 years of professional and academic experience focusing on marine research techniques, environmental research and education. Shaaban worked for 5 years in the environmental research and education field (2 years at Frontier-Tanzania, 1 year at the Center for Urban Environmental Research and Education and 1 year at Tetra Tech, Inc.) as a Research Assistant and a Consultant on issues related to environmental assessment, management, program evaluation and data analysis.
He has 11 years of experience in the field of education as an educator and trainer (totally online education, hybrid education and traditional education settings), adjunct faculty at community colleges, curriculum designer, developer and a vast amount of experience in the online learning and assessing environments and platforms.
He received two consecutive fellowship awards from the Chesapeake Environmental Teacher Fellowship Program in Maryland (2005 to 2006 and 2007 to 2008) that aim at translating research findings from the various universities in the Maryland College Systems into learning materials for middle and high School classrooms.
In addition to teaching, Dr. Fundi has worked as a consultant for the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards in the Accomplished Science Instruction (ASI) Project to develop online courses that focuses at enhancing the pedagogical skills of new high school science teachers in the United States. He also work as a Teacher Trainer and Scoring Director for the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards through Pearson education Inc. As a Scoring Director, he trains educators to holistically evaluate written, spoken, and/or videotaped responses to a variety of teacher certification examinations. He prepares materials that exemplify state-specific standards, orienting scorers through an established calibration process, managing scoring sessions, and serving as a content expert in the science teaching content area.
Dr. Fundi earned his M.S. in Education from the Johns Hopkins University; M.S. in Environmental Science from the Towson University both of Baltimore, Maryland; and a B.S. degree in Marine Biology and Microbiology from the Dar Es Salaam University of Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania. He successfully defended his PhD in Education at Mercer University in Atlanta, Georgia concentrating on curriculum design, educational research methodologies, evaluation and assessment.
